Buying music again

For two years now, I have been buying music again. Opposed to streaming that is. There is a variety of reasons for this.

  • I wanted to support musicians more directly again.
  • I wanted a partly more haptic experience again - by buying LPs.
  • I wanted to own the music again. I don’t trust streaming services to be around forever, so I think it’s best to buy - at the very least for the recordings I really like.
  • Spotify got more and more enshittified.

So, I’ve been buying digital music again - mostly on Bandcamp, sometimes on iTunes, and rarely on Amazon. And I’ve started buying LPs. And I’ve been enjoying this very much. It’s feels more “right” and it’s a much calmer (if you can say so even for the mostly heavy music I consume) listening- and music-browsing-experience.

We still have a Spotify account for various reasons – streaming is still very practical after all. But personally, I rarely use this right now. I try to stick to Bandcamp as much as I can for checking out new music.
